Local Biker has a passion for helping
Collects abandoned and unwanted bicycles and rebuilds them to give away to local kids.
Michael Wayne Jordan is a local biker and mechanic with a passion for helping local kids in need
The spark for a new giving initiative was formed after a Christmas meal program that the American Legion hosted. After that dinner, while visiting some of the locals he met there, he noticed a bunch of little kids running around a neighborhood. One of the kids, in particular, caught his attention.
"This kid had taken a whole roll of duct tape and parts from other bikes and tried to make himself a bike of his own. It was the biggest Frankenstein thing I had seen, and I said hell no." Jordan tells us. He began working on a way to help.
Luckily enough, a few weeks earlier, Jordan had come across a couple of run-down and abandoned bikes, which he had collected and put away to fix up later, just figuring he would eventually find a use for them.
After seeing the creation of Doctor Frankenstein jr., Jordan was inspired to go home and get to work stripping down and refurbishing the currently shabby bikes. Once he finished fixing them up, he brought them over to the neighborhood and gave them away for free to the kids.
After relating the story with some of his brothers in the American Legion Riders, that spark of giving was fanned. The Riders are in the beginning stages of organizing support for a new intuitive to continue to find older unwanted bikes and parts, fix them up and give them away to locals in need.
Jordan is now collecting tires, tubes, chains, and other parts to be used on more bikes. So far, he has completed about eight bikes and given them away. Even the Estes Park Police Department has voiced interest in helping the cause.
Jordan says he grew up poor with his two brothers in south Dallas, raised by his single mother, and knows what it is like to grow up poor. He is doing his part to help how he can.
If you would like to donate to his initiative, Jordan says the best way to get ahold of him is via Facebook under Michael Jordan's profile (Tattoo.)
